Born of an Extreme Landscape
Baby goat cashmere comes from one of the most extreme natural environments on earth. Cashmere goats are native to the mountainous regions of Inner Mongolia; vast, inhospitable landscapes marked by arid terrain, scarce vegetation, torrid summers and long, frigid winters.
To survive these conditions, Capra Hircus goats develop two distinct layers of fleece. The outer coat is coarse and protective, shielding against wind and abrasion. Beneath it lies an ultra-fine underfleece grown close to the skin. This inner layer traps air, regulates body temperature and provides highly effective natural insulation.
This underfleece is the source of all cashmere. Baby goat cashmere, however, is something far rarer.
Collected exclusively from Capra Hircus kids less than one year old, baby cashmere can be gathered only once in a goat’s lifetime. At this early stage, the fibres are at their finest and most refined, measuring just 13.5 microns in diameter. Each kid yields an extraordinary 30 grams of usable fibre; a whisper-light quantity that underscores both the rarity and purity of the material.
